Please go to the Admissions Offce on Level 3 upon your arrival. The Admissions Office is open from 7:30am to 15:30pm
NIghtwear, dressing gown, slippers (anti-slip socks are available at ward level). Day clothes as we encoruage patients to get dressed during the day as part of the "Get Up, Get Dressed, Get Moving" campaign. Towels, face-cloth, toiletries - toothbrush, toothpaste, soap / gel, comb, razors etc. A list of current medications.
Please bring only what is required as space is lmiited. The hospital does not provide a personal laundry service so please make suitable arrangements with family or friends.
Do not bring valuable items such as laptops, jewellery or large cash amounts. The hospital does not accept liability for loss of items.
Medical Staff
Each Consultant has a team which usually comprises of a Specialist Registrar and/or a Registrar, Senior House Officers and Interns.
Nursing and Midwifery staff
The Directors of Nursing and Midwifery are suppported by Assistant Directors of Nursing / Midwifery, Advanced Nurse Practicioners, Clinical Nurse / Midwifery Managers, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Staff Nurses / Midwives and Healthcare Assistants.
Health and Social Care Professionals
You may be referred to other professionals if required - Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Dieticians, Podiatrists, Speech and Language Therapists and Social Workers.
Support Services Staff
Catering, Household, Porters, Security and Waste Management staff.
Hospital Shop
The Hospital Shop is in the main hospital foyer. Cash back facilities are available on purchases over €10.

Located throughout the hosptial providing a wide variety of healthy snacks.

Security Monitoring System
A security monitoring system is in place consisting of CCTV and security personnel.
Please note - there are no ATM facilities available within the hospital
Public Patients
There are no hospital charges for public inpatient care or day service care. The removal of these charges was announced as part of Budget 2023 and came into effect on 17 April 2023. Inpatient and day service charges still apply for inpatient and day service care up until and including 16 April 2023. You may be liable for hospital charges if you attend an emergency department (A+E) of a public hospital. Medical card holders and certain other groups do not have to pay hospital charges.
Private Patients
Please bring details of your private healthcare insurance cover including company, policy number and plan. On admission you will be asked to sign forms to enable the hospital to submit your account to the insurance company.
Emergency
If you attend the outpatients department or emergency department (A+E) of a public hospital without being referred by your GP or family doctor, you may be charged a standard fee. There is no charge if you are referred by your GP. You must show the referral letter from your GP when you attend the outpatients department or emergency department (A+E).
Since January 1 2009, this charge is €100.
This charge is not applicable if you are in one of the following groups:
Medical card holders
People admitted to hospital after attending the emergency department
People receiving treatment for prescribed infectious diseases - including coronavirus (COVID-19)
Children, in respect of the following diseases and disabilities: “mental handicap, mental illness, phenylketonuria, cystic fibrosis, spina bifida, hydrocephalus, haemophilia and cerebral palsy”
People who are entitled to hospital services because of EU Regulations
Note that in select cases where people have difficulty paying, the HSE may provide the service free of charge. You should also note that return visits in relation to each episode of care will not be subject to any additional charge.
If you are referred by your GP to outpatients for specialist assessment by a Consultant or his or her team for diagnostic assessments such as x-rays, laboratory tests or physiotherapy, there is no charge if you attend as a public patient.
General visiting times
6:30 pm to 8:30pm. No visiting is permitted outside of designated times unless on compassionate grounds.
Never bring alcohol or tobacco to patients
Ensure children are supervised and accompanied by an adult at all times
Maternity Ward
Open visitiing for partners only until 8:30pm. Grandparents and newborn siblings are permitted between 6:30 pm and 8:30pm
Intensive Care Unit and Coronary Care Unit
No children are allowed to visit. Please limit duration of visit. Peace and quiet contribute greatly to patient's recovery. Please be as quiet as possible on the corridors and while on the ward visiting.
Discharged patients will be asked to vacate bed by 11am where appropriate.
The SUH Chaplaincy Department provides a full pastoral care service for patients and their families. The Holy Trinity Church (inter-denominational) is situated within the main foyer of the hospital. All Chaplains can be contacted via switch or staff at ward level.
Use hand sanitizer entering and leaving patient areas and the hospital.
Do not visit if you are ill and until at least 48 hours after symptoms resolve.
Visitors should not sit or lie on beds.
Patients should wear footwear while walking.
Patients are not permitted to use the hospital canteen.
Together we can minimize the risk of infection.
Smoking or vaping is not permitted within the hospital campus. We strive to create a healthy environment for our patients, employees and visitors.
The Sligo University Hospital Patient Advocacy and Liaison Service is the main contact between patients, their families and carers, and the hospital. They ensure the patients voice is heard.
